Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Cadence collects when you use our website and study app, why we collect it, who we share it with and the rights you have. We keep data collection to what the service needs to work.
Who we are
Cadence is run by its founders, who are the data controller for the personal data described here. For anything to do with your data, including requests for our full contact details, email support@mycadence.co.uk.
What we collect
- Account details: your first name (optional), email address and password. We never store your password itself, only a one-way scrambled version (a salted hash) that can’t be turned back into it.
- Your study data: the answers you give in the decision tree, the goals and targets you set, what you report achieving, your self-ratings, focused time and efficiency scores. This is what powers your progress graph.
- Subscription details: whether you are on the free trial or a paid plan, and the dates it starts and ends.
- Accountability partner details: if you enter a partner’s name or email, they are saved in your own browser so you don’t have to retype them. If you ask us to email your results, we use that address only to send that email.
- Payment details: handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe tells us whether your subscription is active.
- Technical data: our hosting provider records standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the time of a request) to keep the service running and secure.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To provide the service you signed up for (contract): creating your account, logging you in, recommending a study method, running the timer, saving your sessions and showing your progress.
- To take payment and manage your subscription (contract), through Stripe.
- To email your results to someone you choose (contract, at your request).
- To keep records we are required to keep, such as payment records for tax purposes (legal obligation).
- To keep the service secure and working (legitimate interests), for example by using server logs to investigate errors or misuse.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or use third-party tracking or analytics cookies.
Who we share it with
We only share data with the service providers that run Cadence for us, and only what each one needs:
- Netlify hosts the website and stores account and study data.
- Stripe processes payments and manages subscriptions. Stripe’s own privacy policy applies to the payment details you give them.
- Resend delivers results emails, if you use that feature.
- Google Fonts supplies the website’s typefaces, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers and shares your IP address with them.
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
What’s stored in your browser
Cadence uses your browser’s local storage, not cookies, to keep you logged in and remember your preferences (sound, night mode, keeping the screen on) and your accountability partner’s details. These are strictly necessary for the features you choose to use. You can clear them at any time by logging out or clearing your browser’s site data.
How long we keep it
- Account and study data: for as long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete this data within 30 days.
- Payment records: kept by Stripe and by us for as long as the law requires (normally six years for tax records).
- Server logs: kept for a short period by our hosting provider and then deleted.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. To use any of these rights, email support@mycadence.co.uk from the address on your account. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
Cadence is designed for students aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, please check with a parent or guardian before subscribing to a paid plan.
Security
Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, all traffic to the site is encrypted (HTTPS), and data is stored with our hosting provider, encrypted at rest. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don’t use anywhere else.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell you by email or on the site.
